Update..

I must apologise for the lack of posting lately. it wasn't so much that I didn't have time but I was just so distracted by many different things that needed my attention. Before I forget, I want to thank those of you who have written to let me know that you are praying for my mini retreat. However, I didn't get to go, several meetings came up the last minute and I ended being in three meetings on the day that I was supposed to be away! We do have a couple more holidays coming up, so I have not given up planning for yet another one....

Here are some of the pictures I had mentioned of the official dedication of the new church sanctuary of River of God church.

Dancing and jubililation during the worship service. No one dances as well as our african brothers and sisters - they have such a natural rhythm in their bodies, I am so jealous!
The children church gave a great presentation of songs,
This was a proud moment for us when Pas Khaylo invited Tony to the pulpit to give a few words of encouragement as the founding pastor. We are so proud of Pas Khyalo and the ministry team he is leading. The church continues to grow and flourish...God is so good!Kathryn with one of her many babies. This cute boy is Aiden.
This is Rev Peter Njiri, he is the General Superintendent of the Kenya Assemblies of God. He preached and encouraged the church to grow and be missions minded. He also congratulated River of GOd church as the 5th biggest tither in Kenya, where there are almost 3000 churches.I found this picture of Vickie with her best friend, Anastasia from Ukraine. They look so cute together!
This is my great accomplishment! Chinese Roast Pork!!! I am not a good cook and don't really enjoy cooking. One of the challenges I face living in Africa is that I have to cook every meal since eating out is very expensive here- unlike in Malaysia:-)) I also have to bake as the baked goods here are not always tasty and the nice ones are pricey. Anyways, when I was home this time, my sister Sally, cooked us this delicious Roast Pork. She emailed the recipe to me recently and I tried it. It turned out pretty good except that the skin is not quite as crispy- need to tweak that next time....

On a more serious update, the situation at the orphanage has settled quite a bit. The perpertrator is now arrested and the child is receiving the help she needs - treatments and therapy. The child has continue to improve, her infections are under controlled through strong meds and she is less confused and much more calmer. We are all still processing what had happened and is still working on increasing security measures, etc. Thank you for all your prayers for us - we defintely felt the impact of your prayers carrying us.

Turning 60 : Reflections on a New Season

Turning 60: Reflections on a New Season I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and found myself talking about my 60th birthday. I’m not usually one to make a big deal about birthdays—but as I approached this milestone, I found myself reflecting a little more deeply. Sixty feels… different. Special, even. One birthday message on Facebook welcomed me to the “Senior Club.” Apparently, turning 60 bumps you into a whole new age bracket. What does that mean? Well, for starters, higher insurance premiums—got that notice earlier this year! But beyond the paperwork, it feels like a shift. This is the beginning of a new season. Some call it the “final” season of life—but I’ve decided to see it as a privileged one. Because now, at 60, I’m the youngest in this new demographic! There are perks too—senior discounts at movie theaters, restaurants, parks, museums. Priority seating on trains and planes. It took me six decades to earn these privileges, and I’ll gladly accept them! Looking...

The Secrets of a Pastor's Marriage

Recently I posted a picture of myself and a beautiful bouquet of flowers,,,,It was one of those special moments in our marriage. I had been feeling pressured with an unending to do list and preparing for a missions trip. I was sharing with Tony how stressed I was before leaving to have a quick dinner with Vickie. When I returned home, Tony suprised me with this beautiful bouquet. He just wanted to bless and encourage me.  Yes, he's sweet and thoughtful and let me just put it out there once and for all, HE IS ALL MINE :) I was surprised by the number of people who liked the post. I suppose many are "curious" what a pastor's marriage look like...is it perfect? Is it easier because both of us are pastors? I thought I share a few pictures and thoughts on the subject.   Firstly, our marriage is not perfect - it's just like yours - there are always up and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, the sweet and sour! In many ways, a ministers...

Kenya

After our missions in Tanzania, I flew back to Nairobi for a few days before I return home.  No trip is complete without seeing Lucy and the kids.   It is so good to see Lucy, well and walking without pain.  It was the school holidays so only the orphans are   around.  Saturday is also cleaning day for the kids, Lots of washing and water!  I like the new paint!   The pretty  chapel    Some income generating project that the kids are involved in - rabbits farming, chickens and a vegetable farm. They are expecting rains soon!   The toddler being held in this picture is the newest addition. She was left in the cold for at least 24 hours. The police brought her to the home. The other kids enjoy taking care of their new "sister". A group picture is a must, of course! The kids love having their pictures taken.    It was such a blessing to see Sach ...
