Final Post on Congo

It's my last day in Butembo. This is the airport and the runway is a dirt road....
I took aerial pictures of the city. The big dirt road you see is the "Highway" - it's difficult to imagine that I was driven on those roads over the last one week. I don't think I will miss it though.

Once again, our plane needed refueling in Beni. I was glad that I had at least one last look at the city where I had the opportunity to minister to the pastors and their wives and visited the pygmies. This is where "my" pgymy baby lives!

I was flying "first class" - right behind the cockpit :-) Cool, eh...
This emergency exit sign on the plane really tickled me....at least, I was spared from the safety demonstration we all had to endure whenever we get on a plane. On this special plane, we just have to push the window out - self explanatory - how great is that???

I wanted to end my Congo posts with these two pictures of me in this tiny pygmy house sharing the sorrow and pain of a grieving pygmy mother who just lost her newborn baby. In my years as a missionary in Africa, I have shared the pain of losing a child with many mothers and I learn that whether we are Malaysian, Kenyan, Congolese or Pygmy - under that skin is the same heart, feelings and emotions. We all hurt the same way. This little pygmy lady whom we may consider primitive as forest people did not hurt any less when her newborn baby died - in the same way, we all need Jesus as our personal Savior, who died for our sins and gave us abundant life. It was such a privilege for me to share God's love with her and to be able to pray with her. Later, she felt good enough to leave her house and joined us when I preached to the camp. I trust God to comfort her and continue to reveal Himself to her. We must pray for a strategy and resources to reach these many unreached people groups yet in Africa. We must preach it so they can hear it!
