USA : SUMMER 2014 (warning...picture heavy!)

This summer I was blessed to spend a month in the States and during that time was able to spend a week with Kathryn. It also worked out that Kathryn's classmate was not living in her dorm at that time so I was able to stay with Kat. It was such a blessing.

She worked a full time job during the summer, so this good mommy helped cleaned her room when she's at work! Things we moms do for our kids, even 20 year old ones!

I got to visit her at work in the Keeter Kitchen. Here she is peeling smoked meat from the pork butt with her good friend, Ember.

Angie is one of the staff at the kitchen. It comforts my mama's heart that Kathryn is working with people who love her and are good to her. I got to meet all her bosses as well and so proud that they all spoke well of her....except some claimed that she paid them ahead of time to say that!! I think her education at this college is so good in preparing the students for the work force. What a blessing and privilege that she's there!

The kitchen does get very busy but never too busy for a selfie! I love how everyone looked in this picture

I also got to visit and spend some time with my friend, Shirley. Her late husband, JR Gould, was a great friend and mentor to us. We spent 10 years in Kenya together and one of her girls, Shontel was our babysitter. Their family loved on our kids and are such a blessing. I was so grateful that I got to spend a few days with this special girl and got caught up with our lives.  Friendships in the Lord is a special blessing.

This is Shontel, I knew her since she was 10.  This is the first time I have seen her since they left Kenya many years ago, more than a decade! Where does the time go?  She's our favorite babysitter and has such a heart for babies and children. She's now expecting her own baby!

These 3 photos makes me tear up. Ernie and his family has supported us for years while we were in Kenya and even now.  They faithful support was such an encouragement to us, month after month. We've never met each other, they have never heard a sermon we preached or a prayer we prayed, but somehow the Lord put us in their hearts.  And it was also a miracle for us to put this meeting together and Barbara who took me to meet them lives close to them and their kids know each other. Talk about a small world!  Barbara and I met at a Masai Women Conference and we were co teachers on the subject of the Holy Spirit.....even as I typed this, my heart wells up with gratitude for all the relationships that God has ordered in my life!

Barbara decided that I need to try some real southern food. She is a great cook and I enjoyed many good meals at her home but she took me to this buffet  at Shealy's. I LOVE THE FOOD!!!! Esp the pork rind!!

Barbara also took off from her busy schedule and took me for a day visit to Charlotte...we took a carriage ride and had a great tour of the beautiful city and her amazing history,

The lady in blue is our very informative tour guide - she's a history professor in a local university and plays tour guide during the summer!  She also told us that they have very strict requirements before they can become a tour guide. Her knowledge of the city and the individual homes, buildings and streets was amazing. She was also very entertaining. We saw many million dollars homes too. The streets were one of my favorites - beautifully tiled from centuries ago but still solid and so well maintained and the canopy made by the trees.....BEYOOTIFUL!

I also got to minister in Sherry's church on a Sunday that I was in Springfield. She pastors a great new chuch in Seymour and I am so proud of her!
I also managed to meet with several potential sponsors who are interested in our work in Kenya and Congo.

It was an amazing month - at the end of it, I almost felt like I can't stand the sight of one more plane!! I flew so many sectors but yay! for airmiles....

Turning 60 : Reflections on a New Season

Turning 60: Reflections on a New Season I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and found myself talking about my 60th birthday. I’m not usually one to make a big deal about birthdays—but as I approached this milestone, I found myself reflecting a little more deeply. Sixty feels… different. Special, even. One birthday message on Facebook welcomed me to the “Senior Club.” Apparently, turning 60 bumps you into a whole new age bracket. What does that mean? Well, for starters, higher insurance premiums—got that notice earlier this year! But beyond the paperwork, it feels like a shift. This is the beginning of a new season. Some call it the “final” season of life—but I’ve decided to see it as a privileged one. Because now, at 60, I’m the youngest in this new demographic! There are perks too—senior discounts at movie theaters, restaurants, parks, museums. Priority seating on trains and planes. It took me six decades to earn these privileges, and I’ll gladly accept them! Looking...

The Secrets of a Pastor's Marriage

Recently I posted a picture of myself and a beautiful bouquet of flowers,,,,It was one of those special moments in our marriage. I had been feeling pressured with an unending to do list and preparing for a missions trip. I was sharing with Tony how stressed I was before leaving to have a quick dinner with Vickie. When I returned home, Tony suprised me with this beautiful bouquet. He just wanted to bless and encourage me.  Yes, he's sweet and thoughtful and let me just put it out there once and for all, HE IS ALL MINE :) I was surprised by the number of people who liked the post. I suppose many are "curious" what a pastor's marriage look like...is it perfect? Is it easier because both of us are pastors? I thought I share a few pictures and thoughts on the subject.   Firstly, our marriage is not perfect - it's just like yours - there are always up and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, the sweet and sour! In many ways, a ministers...

Vickie in Elsamere and Crescent Island (CFS)

While we face many challenges here in the missions field, we also reap many blessings. One of the biggest blessing to us is the great school that the girls attend : Rosslyn Academy. It started many years ago as a missionary school to cater for the needs of the missionaries' kids. The school has since grown and it is now one of the best schools here in Nairobi. We are very grateful for the quality education that our girls are getting. One of the highlight of the school year is CFS (Cultural Field Studies). The kids get to camp out someplace in the country to learn more about the country they live in. This year, the 7th graders went to Elsamere Park and Crescent Island. You can tell from the photos that they had a great time! They visited a local school and played soccer with the kids. Sports is such great way for kids to get together! These are dung critters..having a feast, I suppose....eewwwww... Miss Gac, she's a great teacher and Vickie loves her! She taught Kathryn...
