Life Update....Kinda :)

It's summer in America and Tony has flown to be with our girls, whom he hasn't seen for 18 months.  That's a really long time. I don't know how other empty nesters feel, but to be honest, I hate it. But that's really no two ways about it, so the best is to embrace it. I was with them last summer, so we figured it was Tony's turn this time.  That means I will be home alone for almost an entire month!
It was defintely time to catch up with some girlfriends over coffee or tea, I guess!

A girlfriend wanted to properly introduced me to tea drinking and generously gifted me with some fancy tea cannisters and tea and a vintage looking strainer - reminds me of the scene in Out of Africa when Meryl Streep was straining tea for one of her visitors out on a patio. I do like tea...especially Kenyan tea. Let's be honest, I like everything Kenya - coffee, tea, cheese, bacon, bratwurst, cookies, bitter lemon soda, the list goes on! This sure added a fancy touch to my tea drinking :)

I had also committed myself to bring a team to Mae Ramat, Chiang Mai to conduct an English camp for a local pastor. We ministered hundreds of school children. The team that came was from my home church, Tabernacle of David.

Dinner with Pas Nujira and missionaries Dan and Gail. It was so inspiring to hear her share her heart with us about the things God has called her to. She has an incredible ministry reaching out to so many.
The team is ministering to "stateless" children in Pas Nujira's church. After the crafts and games, Dan presented the gospel to the children and we were so blessed to see many of them responding to have Jesus in their lives, especially the older kids!

Tabernacle of David, is one of the most generous church we know. The team brought with them literally tons and tons of gifts - for the kids, the teachers, pastors, etc.  In fact, when we left, we had one box full of gifts for the missionaries to share with other pastors in Chiang Mai.

I didn't realise this but last year, I was also in Mae Ramat on my birthday.  Pas Nujira was so sweet to get me a cake. The two young ladies in the team whom I just got to know, also got me coffee from Amazon, a favorite coffee pace in Thailand and a piece of cake. Cake follows me everywhere....what can I say!

It wasn't all work and no play for us, Dan was so gracious to take us jewellery shopping and we also visited the umbrella making place. I have not blog for so long that it didn't occur to me to take more pictures of places I visit. I will try to do better in the future so...fingers crossed
I came arrived home from the airport later in the night to an empty house cos Max was with my sister, his Nanny Anne who is also a dog groomer. He loves going there cos he gets to play with many other dogs. It was really sad walking into an empty house - I missed his enthusiastic greeting and dancing:) but i went and got him the next day. He is so handsome!
The Klepels treated us with these delicious cookies during team orientation at their house in Chiang Mai and we couldn't get enough of it. They were so generous to send a big tin with the team to take home. I have a container of it and enjoyed it so much. Thailand cookies with Kenyan coffee....what more can one ask for!

Tony and the girls posted sweet things on my facebook on my birthday but I am not sure I could ever forgive them for abandoning me on my birthday...just kidding! I was so glad that they got to spend the summer together.  Right now the girls are in the same college and only a dorm away from each other, soon Kat will graduate and they won't be that close in proximity with each other anymore. And Tony and I are miles and miles away from them. I am not sure what the future holds but its a great reminder to spend as much time together as family as you can!

Turning 60 : Reflections on a New Season

Turning 60: Reflections on a New Season I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and found myself talking about my 60th birthday. I’m not usually one to make a big deal about birthdays—but as I approached this milestone, I found myself reflecting a little more deeply. Sixty feels… different. Special, even. One birthday message on Facebook welcomed me to the “Senior Club.” Apparently, turning 60 bumps you into a whole new age bracket. What does that mean? Well, for starters, higher insurance premiums—got that notice earlier this year! But beyond the paperwork, it feels like a shift. This is the beginning of a new season. Some call it the “final” season of life—but I’ve decided to see it as a privileged one. Because now, at 60, I’m the youngest in this new demographic! There are perks too—senior discounts at movie theaters, restaurants, parks, museums. Priority seating on trains and planes. It took me six decades to earn these privileges, and I’ll gladly accept them! Looking...

The Secrets of a Pastor's Marriage

Recently I posted a picture of myself and a beautiful bouquet of flowers,,,,It was one of those special moments in our marriage. I had been feeling pressured with an unending to do list and preparing for a missions trip. I was sharing with Tony how stressed I was before leaving to have a quick dinner with Vickie. When I returned home, Tony suprised me with this beautiful bouquet. He just wanted to bless and encourage me.  Yes, he's sweet and thoughtful and let me just put it out there once and for all, HE IS ALL MINE :) I was surprised by the number of people who liked the post. I suppose many are "curious" what a pastor's marriage look like...is it perfect? Is it easier because both of us are pastors? I thought I share a few pictures and thoughts on the subject.   Firstly, our marriage is not perfect - it's just like yours - there are always up and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, the sweet and sour! In many ways, a ministers...

Vickie in Elsamere and Crescent Island (CFS)

While we face many challenges here in the missions field, we also reap many blessings. One of the biggest blessing to us is the great school that the girls attend : Rosslyn Academy. It started many years ago as a missionary school to cater for the needs of the missionaries' kids. The school has since grown and it is now one of the best schools here in Nairobi. We are very grateful for the quality education that our girls are getting. One of the highlight of the school year is CFS (Cultural Field Studies). The kids get to camp out someplace in the country to learn more about the country they live in. This year, the 7th graders went to Elsamere Park and Crescent Island. You can tell from the photos that they had a great time! They visited a local school and played soccer with the kids. Sports is such great way for kids to get together! These are dung critters..having a feast, I suppose....eewwwww... Miss Gac, she's a great teacher and Vickie loves her! She taught Kathryn...
