A LONG OVERDUE UPDATE!!

It's been quite a while....FOUR years to be exact from my last blog!! Wow...time sure flies.  A lot of things have change since my last post.  Life happened but I am grateful to report that the changes have been good - they might be difficult and challenging but it was still good. We definitely have can testify to the tremendous grace and mercy of God - we sing of His goodness and mercies everyday! I will sharing some pictures as a mini-update.

I arrived to the burnt down JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT in my trip to Kenya last year. It was a challenging experience and reminded me how volatile our world is. I was delayed in Dubai due to this fire. The airlines provided me with a 5* hotel in Dubai and I had an unplanned two day vacation in Dubai - it was a great personal retreat that I had so needed at that time. All things worked for good!

You can see the burnt airport terminal from this picture.
Since our return to Malaysia, the Lord has graciously enabled us to return to Kenya at least twice a year to keep up with the various ministries we were involved with. It is always our joy to see how the works and ministries has grown under the national leadership. I will do a separate post on our trips to Kenya.

We are so grateful that our girls continue to grow in their faith and leadership in the local church. Here Vickie is leading worship at the Youth Service.

It is always such a joy to baptise believers. Baptism services are one of our favorite! In the last four years of our ministry, we were privilege to baptise many believers!

Our Malaysian Christmas tree.  We left most of our belongings in Kenya when we left and we had to start anew with our Christmas tree. It was a lot of fun to shop for all the different decorations in Malaysia.

This is one of my favorite picture of us, taken at a super beautiful shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, the Pavillion. I wish my Kenyan family can visit Malaysia and have this amazing shopping experience in the malls in Malaysia

One of the interesting part of being pastors in Malaysia is the joy of sharing many, many yummy meals with church members. This is a meal with one of the cell groups. We often get invited to share meals with fellow believers and church members. Food is a important element in the church life in Malaysia and we LOVE it!

One of the MAJOR changes in our family is that Kathryn left for college in 2013. As parents, this was one of the most difficult change that we had to embrace. This picture was taken when she came home for Christmas, after being away for a year. It was a joyful reunion for us!

While it is inevitable that some things changes, others remain the same. As in these pictures above, our joy and bond as a family are always close knitted and strong. We are grateful that we have that as a family. At this point of writing, Vickie is preparing to leave for college at the end of the year, Kathryn is completely immersed in college life and enjoying her time there, Tony and I are excited for the ministry opportunities that has opened up to us and keeping us very busy. This is a new season for us and things will be even more different when Vickie leaves us. We will be empty nesters and I truly am not sure I will handle that..not fun:(

I am planning to update this blog regularly, to share what we are doing and what the Lord is doing in our lives.  As I write this post, I am amazed at how far the Lord has brought us a family.  In each season of our lives, He has continued to prove Himself faithful in providing for us, leading us, guiding us and empowering us! He is a good God and when we follow Him, there is no end to the great adventure He has  planned for us.
I am praying that as you read this blog, you will be encouraged to follow Him too!

Turning 60 : Reflections on a New Season

Turning 60: Reflections on a New Season I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and found myself talking about my 60th birthday. I’m not usually one to make a big deal about birthdays—but as I approached this milestone, I found myself reflecting a little more deeply. Sixty feels… different. Special, even. One birthday message on Facebook welcomed me to the “Senior Club.” Apparently, turning 60 bumps you into a whole new age bracket. What does that mean? Well, for starters, higher insurance premiums—got that notice earlier this year! But beyond the paperwork, it feels like a shift. This is the beginning of a new season. Some call it the “final” season of life—but I’ve decided to see it as a privileged one. Because now, at 60, I’m the youngest in this new demographic! There are perks too—senior discounts at movie theaters, restaurants, parks, museums. Priority seating on trains and planes. It took me six decades to earn these privileges, and I’ll gladly accept them! Looking...

The Secrets of a Pastor's Marriage

Recently I posted a picture of myself and a beautiful bouquet of flowers,,,,It was one of those special moments in our marriage. I had been feeling pressured with an unending to do list and preparing for a missions trip. I was sharing with Tony how stressed I was before leaving to have a quick dinner with Vickie. When I returned home, Tony suprised me with this beautiful bouquet. He just wanted to bless and encourage me.  Yes, he's sweet and thoughtful and let me just put it out there once and for all, HE IS ALL MINE :) I was surprised by the number of people who liked the post. I suppose many are "curious" what a pastor's marriage look like...is it perfect? Is it easier because both of us are pastors? I thought I share a few pictures and thoughts on the subject.   Firstly, our marriage is not perfect - it's just like yours - there are always up and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, the sweet and sour! In many ways, a ministers...

Vickie in Elsamere and Crescent Island (CFS)

While we face many challenges here in the missions field, we also reap many blessings. One of the biggest blessing to us is the great school that the girls attend : Rosslyn Academy. It started many years ago as a missionary school to cater for the needs of the missionaries' kids. The school has since grown and it is now one of the best schools here in Nairobi. We are very grateful for the quality education that our girls are getting. One of the highlight of the school year is CFS (Cultural Field Studies). The kids get to camp out someplace in the country to learn more about the country they live in. This year, the 7th graders went to Elsamere Park and Crescent Island. You can tell from the photos that they had a great time! They visited a local school and played soccer with the kids. Sports is such great way for kids to get together! These are dung critters..having a feast, I suppose....eewwwww... Miss Gac, she's a great teacher and Vickie loves her! She taught Kathryn...
