HIM Alumni Meeting and Misc..

I have been kinda under the weather for a while...a head cold that I can't seem to recover from ... coughing, sneezing, no energy, etc...and it seems to me that our internet server must also been having a cold of sort...it has not been working right very much lately. However, today, things seems to be getting better for me and the server :-)) I am trying to post about several different events today...

This August during the AOG General Council here in Kenya, several HIM (Harvesters' Inst of MInistries - the laymen bible school we pioneered in 1993) alumni came to us and shared about how the Lord is blessing them in their ministry and suggested to us that we need to have an alumni meeting soon. They organised it but we hosted it on campus. They were able to contact about 20 of them...we haven't seen some of them for over ten years now! Some of them are pastoring, one of them, Harris and his wife, Florence in their 60s, (on the right of Tony with the African outfit) is just now starting a brand new church! Alex, started a church and planted two more and have a small school running about 48 students for underprivilege kids, Kanye, shared with us how the Lord healed him of diabetes and blindness. It was a tremendous time of thanksgiving and praise that afternoon.
We had a time of singing and they sang "This is the day"....they changed the wording a little and sang "these are the teachers" and pointed to Tony and myself. We feel so humbled to be called teachers by these tremendous men and women of God.
Joel, was a young man when he came to our school. He is now married with kids and is a deacon at the church where our General Superintendent is the pastor.
The shorter, stockier gentleman on Tony's right, is Fred. I have written about him before. He is now the Business Adminstrator at East Africa School of Theology and has started a church as well. Tony shared a short devotion and I prepared a short game and gifts for everyone. Later, we arranged for lunch for all of them at the dining hall on campus. It was one of the best afternoon we've ever had!

Vickie played with her Middle School Symphonic Band yesterday during the Christmas concert at school. They did an awesome job.
Before the concert, she had a soccer game. Her team won 2-0. Go, Vickie!
This is a most amazing picture. I was walking home from a neighbour's house and saw this in the sky. A smiley face!!!! Apparently, it was Venus and Jupiter (or some planet :-)) accompanying a crescent moon. It really was pretty amazing. Did anyone elsewhere see this??
Kat bumming around and eating on a saturday morning...
Vic torturing Max...
Vic with Anastasia, one of her best friend. This was taken during the Cultural Richness Day that the school celebrated. Anastasia performed a traditional Ukrainian dance with her brother. It was pretty incredible.
Kat in a Norwegian outfit and with all her best friends...
There was even someone playing the bagpipe. Rosslyn has students from so many nationalities. We are grateful that the kids has the exposure to the diversity of nationalities, languages, culture and religions.
Kat did a project on Norway. She chosed Norway as her best friend, Erin is Norwegian and is actually there now...Kat misses her...

Vickie did her project on Korea. When I asked her why Korea, she told me she was assigned to it :-))
My two favorite Rosslyn students
Isn't she cute? Don't you think she look Norwegian?

Turning 60 : Reflections on a New Season

Turning 60: Reflections on a New Season I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and found myself talking about my 60th birthday. I’m not usually one to make a big deal about birthdays—but as I approached this milestone, I found myself reflecting a little more deeply. Sixty feels… different. Special, even. One birthday message on Facebook welcomed me to the “Senior Club.” Apparently, turning 60 bumps you into a whole new age bracket. What does that mean? Well, for starters, higher insurance premiums—got that notice earlier this year! But beyond the paperwork, it feels like a shift. This is the beginning of a new season. Some call it the “final” season of life—but I’ve decided to see it as a privileged one. Because now, at 60, I’m the youngest in this new demographic! There are perks too—senior discounts at movie theaters, restaurants, parks, museums. Priority seating on trains and planes. It took me six decades to earn these privileges, and I’ll gladly accept them! Looking...

The Secrets of a Pastor's Marriage

Recently I posted a picture of myself and a beautiful bouquet of flowers,,,,It was one of those special moments in our marriage. I had been feeling pressured with an unending to do list and preparing for a missions trip. I was sharing with Tony how stressed I was before leaving to have a quick dinner with Vickie. When I returned home, Tony suprised me with this beautiful bouquet. He just wanted to bless and encourage me.  Yes, he's sweet and thoughtful and let me just put it out there once and for all, HE IS ALL MINE :) I was surprised by the number of people who liked the post. I suppose many are "curious" what a pastor's marriage look like...is it perfect? Is it easier because both of us are pastors? I thought I share a few pictures and thoughts on the subject.   Firstly, our marriage is not perfect - it's just like yours - there are always up and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, the sweet and sour! In many ways, a ministers...

Vickie in Elsamere and Crescent Island (CFS)

While we face many challenges here in the missions field, we also reap many blessings. One of the biggest blessing to us is the great school that the girls attend : Rosslyn Academy. It started many years ago as a missionary school to cater for the needs of the missionaries' kids. The school has since grown and it is now one of the best schools here in Nairobi. We are very grateful for the quality education that our girls are getting. One of the highlight of the school year is CFS (Cultural Field Studies). The kids get to camp out someplace in the country to learn more about the country they live in. This year, the 7th graders went to Elsamere Park and Crescent Island. You can tell from the photos that they had a great time! They visited a local school and played soccer with the kids. Sports is such great way for kids to get together! These are dung critters..having a feast, I suppose....eewwwww... Miss Gac, she's a great teacher and Vickie loves her! She taught Kathryn...
