We've been home almost two weeks now and I just realised that I have not blogged for a whole week! It's not because I am that busy, but just very many little things that needed my attention and I am too distracted to actually sit down and blog and upload pictures :-)
I will be sharing some photos in the next few days....but a few updates on what we've been doing. Since our return, we've met with Bethuel (a Congolese pastor who graduated this July) and Noella and discussed the strategy/plans to plant a church in Beni and to build a school for the pygmies. I also met with some of the students - one who lost her mother just before her final exams in July. She missed the finals and is only sitting for them now. A lot happened while we were gone - quite a few students whom we really connected with graduated and we miss them! We hope to have their news from their friends when the new term bgins next week. We know that many are serving now in churches either here in Kenya or in their home countries, while some are pursuing their Masters degree in other universities.
This week is the General Council of the Kenya Assemblies of God. Tony went for the meetings but I stayed home to get caught up with paperwork and to prepare for the new school year. Tony was really excited when he came home from the meeting today. He met some of the students of Harvesters' Institute of Ministries (HIM, the layman Bible school we pioneered way back in 1993 and is currently an extension program at the AOG regional seminary here). We learn that many of the graduates of HIM have gone out and planted many churches. Stephen (in his seventies!) has planted 25 churches, another student 17 churches, and many others. It is such a joy for us to hear that. We are so grateful to the Lord and so encouraged to hear of these fruit! I am only too aware of so many wonderful missionaries who have worked just as hard or harder but never got to see the result of their labor. We count ourselves bless that the Lord would let us see that our work has bore much fruit - Praise be to Him! Many of these pastors have invited Tony to speak at their churches....it will be very exciting for us to visit these churches. We want to once again thank our supporting friends and churches - you share in this harvest too!!
Tomorrow we will be going to the Staff/Faculty Day for the University. Tony will be conducting communion.
As I write this, I feel so humbled and privilege that we get to do what we do. I must admit that there are always some bad days but mostly, I feel bless that I have a part in the Kingdom of God - teaching, preaching, encouraging the people of God in His service. The time is short, there is much to do! Please continue to pray for us - we want to be able to accomplish all that our Lord has planned for us to do this year. We need Him!
On the family front, the girls had a great start to the new school year. Vickie won two basketball games already and made 4 baskets. We missed both her games - it was a sad day for me :-( Kathryn is enjoying high school - I cannot even believe I just typed that - "high school" !!! Where is my little girl??? She started teaching Sunday School last week, the Superintendent called her and told her that she needed to her to teach last Sunday as they don't have enough teachers. She did a great job as usual and misses some of kids who had graduated to the 7-9 year old class when she was gone. I am still getting use to having cook everyday - sometimes twice a day; and packing lunches -urgh......! When we were home in Malaysia - I did not cook a single meal...sigh.....
Please check back for pics...ok?
